I can only think of like 3 examples of a monarch exceeding the powers that are legally at his disposal, but democratically-elected bodies (including parliaments) can’t go 5 years without overstepping their boundaries. Really makes you think.

  4.  @ALovelyBunchOfDragonballz  The Germans claimed it was a war crime because 1.- Shotgun wounds were nearly impossible to treat in battlefield conditions. 2.- Shotguns were difficult to distinguish from rifles in battlefield conditions, giving soldiers faced by them almost no opportunity to lay down their arms before getting shot by an enemy soldier carrying it 3.- Shotguns could permanently maim someone far more severely than a rifle. With these 3 points, the Germans argued that the shotgun caused unnecessary suffering, and thus violated the Hague conventions. As for Flamethrowers and chemical weapons, Flamethrowers were rarely fired directly at soldiers and were instead typically used as an area denial tool, and the french were the first to use chemical weapons, the Germans just hit back way harder because Germany at the time had the largest chemical industry in the world. Do I personally believe that shotguns are a warcrime? Not really, but this armchair-history take that "The germans were just butthurt" is an oversimplification and ignores the arguments the Germans were making.
