You can take the English out of England, but not England out of the English

@Laura_Norder-Vanity_Unfair I did. I was there

@kingssuck06 “Right and by the book” The entire town was destroyed, they hardly did it “right”.

@nedludd7622 If I want to know, for example, what year WW1 started, would it make more sense to purchase and read a book containing the entire history of the conflict, or to simply ask someone? It’s much more reasonable to ask a question when looking for a small, specific bit of information about a topic than it is to learn the entire history of it, especially when doing so will cost you money.
13
@Stevie-J I guess if I had known better, I would’ve understood that putting out fires as soon as possible is not sound practice. We need to do it the way the town of centralia did, there’s a success story right there.

Snopes is so reliably unreliable that something is almost certainly true if they say it’s false
6
@nedludd7622 On a topic this obscure, it’s a lot more reliable, simple, and time-efficient to just ask someone who knows about the topic. It’s also a lot better than going to a library to see if they even have a book about this very-obscure and relatively unknown subject.
6
@kingssuck06 If the government can’t do what needs to be done immediately, then what’s the point of it? Oh but we can’t be efficient because we need to address the (many) shortcomings of our system before any quick and decisive action. A lot of good those “checks and balances” (that don’t even work btw) did for the town of Centralia… Hey, at least Centralia has no corruption anymore amirite?

@SvenTviking Pretending the english would ever give the Scots enough autonomy to have their own judges. The judge was clearly english

@mumenRhyder Does sound stop existing if you can’t directly see the insanely loud bulldozer? Does the ground not shake when something that large makes its way over to you? Besides, he had multiple gun ports on it and plenty of ammunition, yet he only ever shot at infrastructure. He had many opportunities to shoot at people yet never did. If he was intentionally trying to kill people then he could have easily killed one of the Docheff’s, who was one of the first people he encountered and was one of the people who he had a grudge with, but instead he bypassed him and started destroying the concrete plant.
3
@mumenRhyder I didn’t say his behavior wasn’t dangerous, I said his intention wasn’t to kill. And for the record, yes I do think the town was screwing him. Just watch the Lore Lodge video on him.
3
@mumenRhyder The difference is that cars are dangerous because they are fast and quiet enough that you might not see or hear it coming before it hits you. The killdozer was massive, slow, extremely loud, and emitted a smoke trail thick enough to see exactly where it was at any given moment

I just wish he took the Docheff’s with him

@Cookiofshadows2 And compared to other disasters covered on this challenge, the aftermath wasn’t handled too poorly, only somewhat callously. There was an investigation launched, the person in charge was fired, the victims were compensated (even if only a meager amount) and considering the scale of the event, all of this is pretty incredible. It also helps that the event was free to attend and that all the festivities (and the ensuing compensation) were paid for out of the tsar’s pocket.

Democracy moment. What a great system we all live under.

@molybdomancer195 And yet the United States was more willing to rescue whatever Japanese civilians might have survived than the "Japanese Self-Defense Force"

Fucking around => finding out
2
@corynasf9749 I don’t see the problem, considering the ethnic makeup of the leaders of the group who overthrew him and killed him, his family, and millions of his countrymen
2
Why are people so obsessed with hating on Nicholas II? For all his faults, I can’t help but find that almost all his critics and enemies were far worse than he ever was.
2
Nicholas II did care tho

@joshwenn989 Yet you’re dumping raw sewage into the youtube comment section

@pazza4555 Except in this case the guy asked one question to someone that knows the subject. If you want to go more in depth, then what you suggested is the right way to go about it, but otherwise asking is fine

The organizer and the people who started the fire, says so right in the video

@millhousemillard2140 Yeah that's why Socialism and communism have had such few tragedies involving mismanagement and incompetence... Oh wait. The issue is human nature, not economic policy you midwit.
1
@millhousemillard2140 And when mass starvation happens because communists want to extract more wealth from the population then that's Communism sucker. You fell for it. I'm not exactly a fan of capitalism as we know it, but advocating for communism as a solution is akin to chopping off someones arm because they're bleeding profusely from that arm. It just makes the situation worse, and never better.

@sharingiscaring1952 I doubt free speech didn’t exist until the Founding Fathers wrote it down in the Constitution
1
@planexshifter I love God and I want to keep my guns, which is why I hate the government

@FootbaFan-pr8sl It’s incredible how the rich of today are x200 more corrupt and evil than almost any European monarch in history yet people put more emotional energy into bashing the latter than into the former. I guess it’s because, since we live in a "democratic" society, we chose the filth we lay in and thus any criticism of the rich and powerful of today is in some way self-criticism.

@Carols989 In what way? Are we going to count WW1 as his fault?
