  1. The “hiding under a desk” thing is probably false. Stalin was well-aware of Operation Barbarossa from its conception. Besides, Hitler never “betrayed” Stalin, he merely realized (too late) that the Soviets were a threat after they seized Bessarabia.

  4.  @TitusCastiglione1503  His spy networks in Japan and Germany gave him all the information he needed from the outset, and in fact Stalin wanted Hitler to attack the Soviet Union because he thought the red army could easily destroy the German army and occupy all the land currently occupied by Germany or its allies (by this point in the war, this basically means all of Europe except Switzerland, Spain, Sweden, and Finland, all of which could easily be occupied later if need be). All of this comes from Vladimir Rezun, Soviet Military Intelligence officer who defected to the UK. Stalin expected an attack but didn’t expect the Germans to actually win, and most of the subsequent failures were a result of a failure to plan for a defensive operation when they had previously planned for an offensive operation.

Not that he opposed it on moral grounds, ofc, he only wanted to retain a few in order to conduct operations against the Soviet Union (and despite agreeing to the operation, he retained some Soviet Expats anyways). Churchill was a moral reprobate and this is clear to anyone who knows his story. Though, at least the British never brutalized their own soldiers like the Soviets did, but that isn’t exactly a high bar. P.S. Most of the supposed "Mass atrocities" of the Spanish and Portuguese are myths. The Spanish Black Legend was continent-wide defamation of Spain (and to a lesser extent, Portugal) They tried it with France, Germany, and Imperial Russia too, but never achieved it to the same degree as they did with Spain.
