In WW2 the actual capacity was already there. Today that capacity is not there to produce those types of outputs. 😊

US has more than enough land for agriculture.

@eikopoppy29 There is already a massive abundance of agricultural land that is not even being fully used. The land that the US has built on is a small fraction of US land. I know the cities look big and imposing but they are really a tiny bit of land. Total US urban land is 100000 sq miles but agriculture is 1.5 million sq miles. The US could triple its cities in size and it would have no impact on agriculture.

And you can afford it.

The grid is not the biggest issue. There simply is not enough copper on planet earth. The only way that it can solved would be for a new alloy to be developed that can conduct electricity as efficiently as copper alloys.

@sciencefliestothemoon2305 Total known reserves of copper are 900 million tons. The requirement for a total renewable global system would be in the billions of tons. The solution does not lay in more extraction but has to come from materials science. Some new alloy is going to need to be developed that can either replace copper or reduce copper use by an order of 10 to 100.

@danielhouse1053 Total copper reserves are about 900 million tons. I am not making it up.

@n8kru19 Technically the grid could be built out as that would just be down to getting things done. New copper is a different issue.

If you are wealthy enough and commute within the vehicles ranges then electric is a luxury choice. That is not the case for 95% of the population
