Canada has healthcare organized per province. and they spend not even half per person - but there may be difference how well each province funds it.
2017: USD 4850 versus USD 10,240 per person in the U.S. versus 5,240 on average in the wealthy countries.
I is not true that you wait months for an appointment (moths for a diagnosis, that can happen - in every country - if it is tricky).
I live in a single payer country - if you have pain or it is urgent or suspicious you get on the fast track. For the check-up it does not matter if you have to wait a few days or even a week.
with a badly sprain ankle they treated me right away (and that was a busy hospital during holiday season). Back at home to remove the cast after a few days and for 2 checks I had to wait in the ER - 20 minutes, 10 minutes AT MOST
No wait time for rehab sessions.
costs: zero
if the ER had gotten someone with a bad burn or a severe car crash coming in with a few injured likely I would have had to wait - worst case scenario driving to another hospital - 20 - 30 minutes.
(the first drive into hospital was with the ambulance, down the mountain road, good thing they had to carry me only a few minutes to the street - I was not a long distance offroad.
That is also my experience with specialists (eye doctor, imaging, dentist, ...) you get an appointment, sometimes you wait 5 minutes, sometimes 20 - it is not that bad, and how often do you really go to the doctor ?
On the other hand I have seen people that were in bad shape or mothers with toddler getting fast tracked.
