She obviously was not onyl "sore", and the way to go into a stretch is to go where it is uncomfortable, and then slowly expand your limits. . Pain is a very important signal of her body, to keep her safe ! SHE must learn her limits. Her body might no be ready for that stretch. And she needs to be calm and concentrated if she pushes her limits. Not overwhelmed, in tears.
No one can force her to accept pain. It is also not reasonable to force her, nor is it safe. He cannot KNOW what her body can do at the moment. He can have assumptions, what other girls could be bullied to do, and they did not get hurt (at least no immediate harm !) - but there is no sure way of knowing. The only way that is safe: SHE listening to her body. She also needs to learn that when the training goes well. So she can improve herself.
A form correction that she cannot pull off by herself, after being instructed is worthless (how is she going to exercise at home ?) - even is she does not get hurt in the process. Her team and the trainer forcing her, is worthless.
She needs to be shown the correct way, and if her body is not yet ready she mut apply herself to exercise a lot (at home) to expand her possibilities, and her mucles fibres and her ligaments. That needs time btw.
If she does not want to do that, then they will not keep her on the team. No big deal !
If she really wants to be on the team, she will put in the long time effort, and face discomfort even light ! pain. That is not something you can or should force upon a person.

btw kids in most cases drown SILENTLY and it can happen in a pool with adults and children present. If the kid just silently floats in the water under the surface ..... For a person in the pool that does not pay attention it can look like a child diving and testing how long they can hold their breath. On LoveWhatMatters com I read a story of a woman, several adults and older kids were IN the pool and around the 5 year old boy. She just helped her 3 year old daughter to change into the swimsuit.
The 5 year old boy lost the ground under his feet, he had gone in at the shallow end, and for the adults (that did not know his level of swimming, diving, hold-your-breath abilites) it looked like he was playing around. And no one SPECIFICALLY was responsible for watching him. His 8 or 10 year old brother was also in the pool (he was O.K., he was able to swim).
His mother then came to the pool (after minutes) and SHE realized he did not play.
They got him out, they reanimated (he did not breathe, was very white), luckily a nurse was present she did CPR. The mother wrote in the article, that she heard someone scream - it was herself and she could not stop herself for a minute or two.
Did not matter, there were people around that took control.
The "got him back" even before the ambulance arrived. In that case the boy did not suffer any damage (except for trauma maybe). he rememberd when he lost ground under his feet. He bounced between ground and almost surface several times, and he wanted his mommy to help him. Of course.
It also does not take a child 4 minutes or 2 to lose consciousness.
And it is possible to drown in shallow water.
Plus I just saw a video of the toddlers as fence climbers (fences and "safe" foldable ladders). Great skill and upper body strength. Nothing short of barbed wire will keep a determined toddler with a few unsupervised minutes out.
