  1. In a building that is NOT a tinderbox, that complies with common sense safety standards (especially for a high rise !) it is SAFER to STAY PUT in your flat in case of a fire. People can suffocate from the (toxic) fumes or get lost because of poor sight in smoke filled areas. - That would require construction methods and materials that HINDER the SPREADING of fire - as opposed to cutting corners to save costs as was done in the case of Grenfell Tower. Stay in the flat in case of a fire and wait for the instructions of the firefighters was the - in general sound - advice given to the residents. Their action group HAD worries with fire safety, they had issued a GRIM WARNING BLOG POST in Nov. 2016 - they were continually ignored with their concerns about systematic hazards - some of those dangers could have been solved with not even that much money and that could have prevented the worst - if not the burning at least the successful QUICK evacuation of the residents. When the material on the outside of the house PROMOTES the spreading of a fire that was likely harmless in the beginning, then RUN. People that were awake said they could barely hear the alarm. They mistook it for some other noise in the beginning. - Another woman was sleepy, her husband was awake and sitting with a friend, they noticed nothing, then an OUTSIDER called her on the phone, "are you awake ? your house is burning, RUN". Which they did.
