Dr. Phil gave an intersting info on catfishs and con artists. When they search on dating sites, and send the emails and text messages in which they court their victims they INTENTIONALLY use mispelled words or bad grammar. Most people pick up the vibes of fraud and notice the inconsistencies - but those who don't, are good targets for further courting, grooming and for being eventually conned.
Usually these are people that are hungry for whatever illusion the scam artist (male or female) can provide so they "overlook" the bad grammar, the cicular logic etc.
So the errors are intentional they are a selection feature, those who stay after they got the clumsy messages are the ones who warrant the investment of time for grooming.
They will get eventaully messages about their online aquaintace who is allegedly stuck in an exotic country and needs to bribe some corrupt people to avoid a unjust priston stay, court case, being detained by immigration etc, etc. and usually means they demand the transfer of many thousand USD
And with Trump the outrageous statements were such a selection feature, too. To separate people who are really into "traditional" conservative values (interestingly Trump didn't do that that well in Mormon country in the primaries) versus those who used those "values" as means to put other people down but threw those "values" out of the window the minute other urgent needs were met (be it ressentment against migrants - documented and undocumented -, the economic situation for the working class people, etc.).
There are of course people who voted Trump despite what he said and saw HIM as the lesser evil. (trade deals, Clinton was openly hawkish, they didn't like the Clintons, or the Democrats, etc.)
