@swskitso I would know to resepct the power of water and would know the stories in the boating communit - and then I would make sure it does not happen to me. Starting with. the kids have a life jacket on at all times. Also good swimmers can lose conscriousness or become unwell fast.

@swskitso your defiant comment defending criminal and dangerous neglect illustrates a certain attitude. Which the father also had that was so woefully unprepared to keep his children - or himself - safe, I wonder if he was drunk or if he is just in the habit of being cavalier, unprepared and ignorant. If the boating community has stories than that is something you can factor in. If you are out there as the only adult in waters with strong currents (or they can be with open water it is a good idea to ask the locals) then they all including the father wear life jackets, Period. Little children can easily drown, fast and in not much water and in pools with other people (incl. adults present). So even a 4 year old wears the floating device in a pool. The 7 year old is good enough that he does not need that. That is the only thing some adult around that boy got right, he learned to swim well.

@nickharley2344 LAPD used to hire from Alabama. Johnny Lee Clary left he Klan in ? 1989 and he said that they had many supporters within the Klan. sounds like those methods !

Do you think Republicans would do better ? Large cities tend to vote Democrats (or whatever party is more to the left in ohter nations) - usually Corporate Dems - they have the same big donors as Republicans. They all colludew with local big biz and the real estate "developers", that creates a permanent underclass (people priced out from housing). Then they need an oppressive police to keep the poor down and "show them their place". The local politcians fear the organizing power of police unions and they want their campaign donations. Prosecutors often hold that office as first step to a political career. They want convictions, not finding and prosecuting the culprits. For that you also need police to play nice. Delivering the low level offenders, weed, etc. If police plants evidence - the prosecutors will not object, they don't want to know the details as long as they get good cases. In some cases police does not verify credible alibis (not verifying until the camera footage is deleted by the shops that could clear the only suspect they can be bothered to investigate. Suspect is of course low income, and a minor on top of that, that makes the conviction more likely in a high profile case (girl shot dead while doing homework at the kitchen table. Shot came from outside, weapon was never found. Suspec could not afford a top lawyer or private investigator. Ask Amy Klobuchar.
