  1. It's been 2 years since you commented about not poking the Russian bear - still relevant. Germany, Austria do not want war with Russia - or war in Europe. Nor do the other countries, not even our leaders are THAT mad. I think that the Ukrainian government were shocked about Trump's election. I would not be surprised if the Ukraine starts some hostilities to increase pressure on Trump. Well at least Victoria Nuland is no more in the US state department. True the media was and is somewhat hostile to Russia. There was this comedian show in German TV where they explained (graphs) how the leading people of the important German newspapers are courted by the "Atlantic Bridge" and other Think tanks (pro US, pro US dominated NATO and usually praising the wonders of the EU, EURO, economic globalization and other neoliberal drivel). The get the news at prime time, and then come the comedians and tell us the other side of the story. You know like the court jesters who were the one's who could tell the truth to the king. Even one person that is a long term news speaker in a prime time news show has well known connections to the Atlantic Bridge - he does not even hide his bias when doing interviews - legendary his interview with a German Siemens CEO who made an already planned business trip to Russia immediately after the implementation of sanctions (I do not know how that is tolerated in publicly financed TV - the speaker got some backlash). There was a lot of Anti Russia bias in 2014/2015 in the mainstream media because of Crimea, but in Germany the citizens pushed back (commenting, complaints at the board of public TV - they are supposed to be neutral, calling them out on incorrect reporting or exagerations. Again legendary the interview with a soldier of pro current government militia , giving an interview, public TV prime time. Neo-Nazi emblem on the sleeve of his uniform. In German public TV for crying out loud. - the public protested that as well. - No idea if they did not know or did not think someone would recognize that symbol for what it was. Anyway it did not fit the narrative: that man was supposed to be one of the "good" guys, so him being a part of a extreme right wing militia group was not that convenient. Regarding Ukraine and Syria most people accept the US view of events, they do not have time or interest to search and assume that "they" know what they are doing and that "they" would not lie to us. (No and No) The leading media builds on that trust and respect for traditional media, and spreads the NATO talking points and the smaller outlets follow suite. I think with Aleppo and the contradictory reports from the people that came out of the occupied area, that may have somewhat changed. Younger people get their news from the internet and there you get the 2nd opinion. And people here - even if they believe the official version of things and have no symphaties for Russia - do not want war, let alone with a nuclear power. A part of the US elite want confrontation - not necessarily war, maybe just a costly arms race, leading to more economic troubles to destabilize the country. I think they want very much to get rid of your president. Last but not least the US elites want another Cold War - and for that a good enemy is needed - how else should they justify the immense US military budget (more than the next 10 countries combined and many of these 10 countries are allies, even very loyal NATO members). And of course it is a long standing US policy, never to let Europe get too friendly with Russia - that would seriously undermine US dominance. (interesting read security adviser Zbigniew Brezinski The Grand Chessboard). Well unfortunately we have spineless leaders, when the US says "Jump" the ask: "How high ?". That US mission was accomplished - for now. I do not think the Americans will be up to the task of building the world dominating empire. The cracks are opening everywhere (healthcare, poverty, debt, even the US citizens have enough of "nation" building, more and more question that their government wants to do good when we regime change and go to war. The "we-bomb-countries-into-democracy" narrative is less believable for US citizens than it was around the year 2000. P.S: did you have fun watching the US elections ? - at least your leader is eloquent and knowledgable.
