  3. Loss of oil revenue was important, that started around 2013. But the economic warfare of the U.S. (and their European, Canadian, ... poodles) is even more harmful. And the threat of sanctions is so effective that not even the EU (550 million people, some of the richest nations in the world) dared to go against the bully, the U.S. So of course Venzuela is screwed *. By now it should be clear that the desired regime change does not work, did not work when Cheney / Bush helped finance a coup against Chavez, that was embarassing, the masses took it to the streets and the kidnapped president was released after 1 or 2 days. And regime change did not work for the Trump admin. Does not look like the hawks in the Biden admin have any more sense, of course they drive Venezuela, Boliva, Nicaragua into the arms of China and Russia. Even if Venezolans are unhappy with the current government (the economic hardship imposed onto them by the U.S. has a lot to do with it) - they still do not vote for the oligarchs of the opposition. They know they would not fare better. Yes, sanctions would be lifted if a U.S. puppet would get into power (never mind if that was with a coup, there were never sanctions against the people that pulled off the coup in Honduras or in in 2018 in Boliva), but then the oil revenue is handed over to the oligarch class. * It showed how the EU (companies) did not dare to go agains the U.S. and did not honor their obligations from the Iran deal. Iran had kept their part, the U.S. left the deal unilaterally (Trump and republicans likely just to spite the Obama admin, which is a terrible way to conduct foregin policy) The U.S. sanctioning Iran would not matter as long as Iran could still do trade with the other developed nation. So the U.S. BULLIED their vasalls ! into obedience to keep their sanctions. It is even more ridiculous in the case of Cuba. Why is the U.S. sanctioning them ? But a French energy company was made to pay a fine for doing biz with Cuba a few years ago. Unfortunately they had assets in the U.S. so they could be blackmailed, a judge allowed them to be seized. I think it is even a company where the French government is a shareholder.
