It is true that China dropped the ball and they could have prevented the pandemic. ** It sure would have been helpful if the WHO had classified it earlier as pandemic. (it shows Chinese influence on the funding the UN institutions used to be U.S. bitches). But it could have been worse, that such a virus would originate in the U.S. under a Republican admin because then we would be really screwed. The U.S. was in denial long after late China and Europe got the memo. At some point the Chinese central government realized what they had at hand and THEN they reacted - and strongly. (which then was to late to stop the global spread among other things because other governments did the same as them and hoped "it would go away or not be so bad"). ** The virus mutated in Feb. / March and become MORE contagious. The Chinese did not want to close down the economy. If they had acted correctly they would have had some economic impact and we would be in blissfull ignorance how we dodged (another !) bullet. The Western governments watched that neverously, screw the WHO, they knew of course this had the potential to blow up (well their experts did). Nontheless Italy ignored the warning signs of China. Germany, Austria, France ... did (they share the Alps and winter tourism, that was one hub to spread it in Europe in February). The European countries dragged their feet, but at the end of Feburary they were alarmed. Italy was in bad shape already, but did not proclaim a national emergency and lockdown until March 9, 2020. Major EU countries followed mid of March (15) as they "found" more and more cases. So they too dragged their feet but then there was a seismic shift and they finally jumped into action.
