The donors finance the Corporate Democrats (and provide the cushy jobs later !) - their most important task is to WIN PRIMARIES against blue collar types and progressives. So the ballot will offer the voters the "choice" between a spineless sellout Democrat or a fierce Republican. The big donors always win.
It is not even necessary that the Corporate Dems win the general - the Dems certainly would like it but keeping the money flowing in is more important and for the donors it does not really matter.
Corporate Democrats do have value for the donors - they reach the part of the population that would not go with the Republicans.
That is the reason for the deafening silince of the Dems on hackable voting machines and voter roll purges and all the other criminal tricks (nice excepetion Georgia with Stacy Abrams and Andrew Gillum in Florida in 2018 - they called a spade a spade ! They lost by 30,000 resp. 50,000 vptes only).
Greg Palast investigative reporter: Republicans steal general elections, Democrats steal primaries. (he did not even speak of 2016 !)
Voting machines where the votes and the count cannot be audited !
So you have to believe the numbers will be processed in acordance with what the voters enter at the machine and see at the screen - because there is no way it can be verified (all of Ohio, some areas of Texas, maybe also other states). John Oliver did a segment on the issue of voting machines recently.
That would be unthinkable in other nations. And it helps to have byzantine and costly restrictions on recounts if there is even something like a paper trail and there is a meaningful way of doing the recount.
In an emergency the paper ballots that are evidence in an ongoing lawsuit can be destroyed by a civil servant - see the election that Tim Canova "lost" against Debbie Wasserman-Schultz in Florida.
The big donors do not want the sheeple to pay attention and to question the integrity of the elections. They fear nothing more than that the Sleeping Giant could awaken (so they naturally hate Sanders who aspires to become the Organizer-in-chief).
Democratic politicians have to remain silent (for the most part) even though they lose elections because of it. Maybe some complaints about gerrymandering and voter ID laws - but not a peep on the glaring problem of elections that can on principle not be audited and voting machines that are hacked by eleven year olds in 15 minutes (they do contests with machines that are exactely like the machines used in the elections).
Exception in midterms 2018: However, Gillum and Abrams toe the party line in general, are not insiders in the circles of power (both only known regionally until the 2018 midterms) and are not too progressive.
Andrew Gillum backpaddled on M4A after he had won the primary in Florida (with a Sanders endorsement in the primary, I think Sanders did an event for him). I suspect that was the price for the Obama endorsement and one even in the general election (against a Republican !! - and a Senate race that could only profit from more Democratic turnout)
Let that sink in: Obama would not unconditionally support a viable candidate for governor in Florida !With positions that go well with the Democratic base and do not contradict what the party says it stands for.
A candidate who is young, has political experience as mayor of a large town, has charm, is black and has no political baggage.
Neither Gillum nor Abrams got a lot of media coverage before ! election day regarding the various voter suppression tactics. Nor have they gotten support from high ranking Democrats in their (ongoing) battles.
Gillum did not feel the need to also run for president, instead he does a voter registration drive in Florida (Bloomberg panel with Abrams and Gillum in spring 2019. Gillum at the end: "In Florida we have no other important races in 2020, so we can do that. The nation can thank us in 2020 when we help deliver the eviction note to Trump in the White House").

It wasn't that bad - they lost to the people who have the same donors. One thing is even more important than winning elections: to keep the big donors happy (and getting the donations to the campaigns, to the party in general and the cushy jobs for ex-politicians) .
