+ donHooligan - That's an interesting take. To be sure Sanders never dwelled long on "Russia, Russia". Whether he believes that to be true or not - he goes with the flow. It is is VERY TELLING that they all (both parties funded by Big Biz AND media) avoid one issue like the plague: easily hackable voting machines. Ohio never ! activated the safety feature (it would act like a paper trail).
When Sanders "accepts" the presumption that some form of "hacking" * of servers happened so that mails were leaked - WHAT ABOUT THE VOTING MACHINES ?
Years ago students for a newspaper article tried to hack them - no problem at all. Young teenagers repeated that recently (with "copies" of the machines - two kids cracked them within 10 - 15 minutes).
* allegedly the severs of the DNC - although the former technical director of the NSA, Willian Binney disagrees, he says it very likely was an internal download by a whistleblower. The server was never investigated by an independent agency. Only by a company with ties to Ukraine and the Steele dossier if I remember correctly).
And no matter the topic of the issue he ALWAYS mentions healthcare and then at least one or two other issues (student loans, maternity leave, infrastructure, green energy, ... he varies that - but Medicare for All is his signature issue - excellent messaging).he rules for recounts of paper ballots (or the images) are very complicated, it is expensive (often the differences must be miniscule - so they just need to do some BOLD manipulation in certain states and will get away w/o recount. One can only review the machine results, they may have a paper ballot as backup (or more likely an image - now such DATA could be manipulated.
With paper ballots they could only "lose" some - and then the number would not match.
In Europe they have paper ballot and hand count. It is not possible to rig such elections - at least not at that level. And with enough paper ballots and some pens - that "technology" is safe from technical glitches - which could be real technical problems or attempts of manipulation.
Hand count of paper ballots is much safer - it is not possible to cheat at all - the counting is done before witnesses and usually per polling station. (In the U.K. they transport the boxes of one district to sports hall, the boxes are sealed, monitored and signed off of course. they have long tables, people sit in pairs with a stack of ballots and count them before the eyes of the public and media. The result per district is then read to the public.
They have 630 parliamentary seats = districts in the U.K. - the citizens can do the math if they want. There is no "covert processing in the blackbox".
In the U.S. paper trail is in many states (not all !) the backup - it is meant to deliver "proof" if there were manipulations in the first round - but if they are brazen enough they can manipulate that.
In Florida a result was challenged, and during the ongoing court case the paper trail was destroyed - see Tim Canova. Funny there are Republican prosecutors - but no one - Democrat OR Republican will touch the issue (Tim Canova wrote to them). They all get money from the SAME BIG DONORS. And the donors do not want Canova, a grassroots candidate to win. And it would make big waves if Debbie Wasserman-Schultz was found to NOT have won - respectively when civil servants bended the election for her.
