Super exciting. but isn't it sad that something that is a no brainer (even if you pursue self interest) took them so long to decide and that everybody is so pleasantly surprised they might do the right thing. That was an issue since OCTOBER. Then no vaccines had been approved, it was the right time to talk about it - well no, the right time would have been mid summer, plus preparations to set up the plants and train the staff. That seems to be a real bottleneck.

He is all for lifting the patents BUT manufacturing plants and qualified staff are a bottle neck. he is in the process of developing a vaccine that will be produced by yeast colonies (read: old fashioned technology, can be scaled up quickly, cheap production, vaccine is easy to handle for the users - no deep temperatures etc.). he talked positively about mRNA technology etc BUT for a pandemic you also want to have a vaccine option that can be mass deployed and at low costs. Well if you think as a public health expert that is. They got the virus DNA sequences in January (like all the other researchers). But then he lost 2 - 3 months with fundraising until he had gotten 4 - 5 millions from rich Texans. That is not even pocket change. They are currently testing the vaccine and it looks good so far. But until the patents are lifted and they have production in place - the Hortez & team vaccine might be ready to be mass produced as well. And that would be a People's vaccine, so the tech would be public domain. BionTec got 450 million USD from the German government and only when it looked good Pfizer came on board ! So much for the right of Pfizer to make profits of mRNA.
