  1. Making Mike Pence and Kevin KcCarthy testify (their conversations with Trump AFTER the riots had begun) would have driven the message home to VOTERS. Forget about politicians. I read for instance that local news in Utah reported as little as possible. The voters are certainly not correctly informed if they watch FOX, and many only watch FOX. But if Mike Pence testifies or refuse too people are reminded that the VP got death threats, the president sent a tweet that was the same as the pressure campaign that had been going on for a while and was critical of Pence (his boldness and that he should NOT head the session where the election result fo the STATES was certified. He did not have the constitutional authority to interfere with that. But when have Trump, grifting Republicans or the cult ever been deterred by facts? Republicans are already busy declaring that "white is black" and as always feckless Democrats let them. They for sure made the point that even IF one gives Trump a ridiculous benefit of the doubt (he was that dumb, that he did not figure out what the lead up to Jan 6th and his speech would trigger). But Trump had no intention to stop it once it happened. On the contrary. They delayed the National Guard, he sent a critical tweet AFTER Mike Pence had been secured by the Secret Service. This was the ONLY tweet Trump bothered to send for several hours. IF it was not true that Trump wanted the Storm on the Capitol - the rioters were under the same impression as impeaching Democrats. They though he had sent them and they were doing his bidding. It is not like Trump was eager to correct that impression. Of course not - he hoped it would succeed. If they had killed enough Democrats, they might not have been able to proceed with the formalities as per the constitution. The certification of the election and the inauguration is the last step. If the vote is not certified and the Republicans would have the majority in Senate and Congress (injured or killed Democrats to give Republicans the majority) maybe an administrative coup would have been possible. I think it was a very long shot - considering that the military leadership and the American oligarchs would not be on board. I think it soothed the wounded ego of Trump, and he is so dumb that he does not think beyond one pleasant afternoon, where he enjoyed that some people would go to such lenghts for him.
