  1. Didn't think of it that way - but yes the Corporate Dems are not too keen to have lots of people voting, certainly NOT in the primaries. The role assigned to them by the Big donors is to win against progressives to keep them away from influence AND to present the illusion of choice - else the abandoned voters might be getting ideas and stray and do their own thing. Voters can cross party lines by the hundreds of thousands or sit out elections, but especially the Democrats get really pissed about third party voters (and only them). That is an alternative and it shows that people take the time to go to the polls find decisions that are NOT influenced by the stenographers of mainstream media - and are ready for a new kind of politics. If Jill Stein had gotten 10 % of the popular vote (all other results exactely the same), she would be blamed for the Clinton loss. But even if those Stein votes would have made no difference for Clinton regarding losing states (for instance a lot of support for Stein coming from solidly red or blue states) - the Dems AND their donors (which are the same donors as for the Republicans) would be deeply worried. (The unwashed masses about to escape from the lockgrip of the party duopoly and the tyranny of the "lesser evil). For the donors it does not matter which wing of the one and only big donor party wins. - For Corporate Democrats keeping the donors happy is even more important than to win the general election - certainly for the big shots in the party (and the smaller fish suck up to the party establishment to advance into a secure and lucrative position. Well connected obedient ex-politicians will be rewarded with jobs even when they lose their seat. Some join Congress anyway just as a stepping stone for a more lucrative career). that's another role of the party "leadership" - to make the lower charges fall in line.
