ask them why the heart beat (of a primitive hearth) is the arbitrary time when life (as a human, a lot of things are "alive") starts. Why not the kidneys or the liver, ... The heart is a symbol for emotions but in a medical sense the lungs or kidneys ... are equally important. Why not 8 or 10 weeks or 2 weeks after conception ? . It they arel like: " life starts at conception anyway." Then ask them what they think about the disposal of fertilized eggs in fertility clinics. Those that are not perfect - the equivalent of an abortion if the future child would be disabled. Those that do not seem viable and may have fewer chances to lead to a successful pregnancy. And those that they do not need, if they have a few and an attempt is succesful. They can keep sperm and eggs for a time (years) but I do not think they can keep fertilized eggs for that long. And they definitely do not waste any efforts on imperfect fertilized eggs. Those are sorted out. I am waiting for the pro fetus people to protest the sanctitiy of life in front of fertility clinics and harrassing couples that try to get pregnant that way.

Life begins at conception (true, but a sperm cell is also "alive") he means life as a person. - if that is the case the protesters should gather in front of fertility clinics. Doctors try to stimulate the growth and release of more than one egg and try to get more than one fertilized. If they do not seem to be O.K. they are not even implanted (a deliberate choice to not carry to term, and to leave the decision to fate or to good or chance if the fetus will be ever viable - or a severely disabled infant at some point). That is not an abortion - the egg is intentionally fertilized and does not even get a chance to get inside the womb. And even viable eggs may not be used IF they have enough (not sure if they can keep them for a while - if the implanting does not work and the pregnancies ends after a few days or a few weeks. Then they could try again IF the fertilized egg is still viable. If she can hold on to the pregnancy the egg may be destroyed at some point, or just die by itself. So Kirk should not forget to include fertility treatments in his crusade. But that would hit affluent people (and many of them R voters). And it has nothing do do with directly controlling the sexual activities of women (or making pregnancies the punishment for her having sex). I am not holding my breath any pro fetus person will notice that glaring omission.
