+AntPDC I dug into the news and independent media in the last years - and CONTINUED to be shocked. To quote a commenter from former Eastern Germany: We at least knew that we were being lied to in the news(people from that region are skilled in reading between the lines, they did read the newspapers, they just did not believe everything).
There will be bias, journalists do shoddy work, have to obey the interest of whoever owns the place.
But sureley if they ALL sing the same tune, it must mean something ?? !!
No - it is surprising and shocking and unsettling - NO it does not mean anything - the influence of the deep state is huge. And the politicians in the EU are spineless, or psychopathic, open for blackmail *, opportunistic or cluelees (you can freely combine those traits). Needless to say the media follows them. We get more useful political insights from comedians than from the news.
* Remember when the Snowden leaks revealed that the NSA had hacked the private phone of the German Chancellor Angela Merkel. And spied within buildings of the EU.
The German government LIED to the citizens regarding the Yugoslavian war in the 90s (imminent danger of genocide). We know NOW that was complete rubbish (intelligence from one actor - it was the test case for WMDs).
I do not think the German government was deceived for one moment( so it begs the question if the US had something to make them fall in line).
They just needed something in the files for plausible deniablilty. (We were stupid and completely unprofessional to accept such "intelligence" but we did not lie about war - that would bring them into prison).
So Billl Clinton got his war too, the Serbians were bombed. And with that any moderate on any side in the Civil war and conflict was silenced and the crazies on all sides took over. (As an US general had warned would happen if the West would start bombing. THEN eventually the atrocities became widespread the West - allegedly - feared would happen).
The CIA has been paying thousands of journalists over the decades - to influence public opinion. (The CIA and the media: Carl Bernstein).
They pay now the Washington Post.
When Dick Cheney, GWB and Tony Blair wanted their war there were few dissenters in the media (with a good platform). And they were sacked.
Phil Donahue or Chris Hedges, also some higher ups in the BBC. That silenced the other few people who would be in a position to influence public opinion AND who have enough of a following AND who still have a conscience.
Only 4 - 5 news agencies (AP, Reuters, AFP, ...) control the delivery of "facts" to the mainstream media (the gatekeepers of the gatekeepers). If I was the CIA I would undermine them. (This has to be done subtley but not covering something by them has enormous power)
5 - 6 large US media corps dominate the news market, they are for profit, they are pro rich people who have interests that usually do not align with the interests of the regular folks
And - these rich people (and hardly any politicians) do not serve in the military.
War is lucrative (ratings, and the owners are likely invested in the the military industrial complex). They get ads from the contractors - and even from the Pentagon.
Their journalists doing Court reporting preserves their "access" to the high and mighty - it makes work easier (and cheaper). And politicians owe the owners of the newspapers favours. Not necessarily any specific quid pro quo - a general climate of mutual benevolence. It would be uncouth to oppose the other side.
These people - the politicians and the media bosses (and higher managment and top journalists are also allowed if they behave nicely) - meet each other at the cocktail parties.
Mark Blyth, economist (another recommendation) : the leaked DNC mails (Podesta emails) were searched for location that was mentioned the most: Martha's Vineyard, and I think the Hamptons. ....nuff said.
I highly recommend to listen to Larry Wilkerson, former chief of staff to Colin Powell, he has regular appearances on The Real News.
April 2017: Wilkerson: most of my sources ! do not think Assad ordered a poison gas attack.
I haven't heard him yet on this incident (April 2018) - but no doubt he is not buying it now either. NOT without independent investigation. (His boss appeared before the UN and lied the country into a war (or was convinced/pressured into not opposing the war. If Colin Powell had opposed the war publicly - after resigning that could really have derailed the war agenda).
Wilkerson was briefed by the CIA to inform Powell about the "fact" that Saddam Hussein had WMDs. - And later there were the torture cases (we have not seen and heard the worst - according to Wilkerson. Obama classified most of it).
That catapulted him somewhat out of his loyaltiy to the military and the "system". And he is still pissed off. Which is extremely valuable because we can learn a lot from the perspective of an insider.
Or listen to Ray McGovern, 30 years CIA, worked in the team that briefed presidents member of VIPS formed after the Iraq lies (Veteran intelligence P. for Sanity. I cannot recall what P stands for, the main thing is former spooks for SANITY).
Ray is another one who is not buying the whole Syria narrative. Or the Russia/Ukraine narrative for that matter. (He speaks Russian, during the Vietnam war he was repsonsible for covering the Soviet Union aspect.

the Tories CUT the system with the LEANEST BUDGET in Europe. UK spends the least of all wealthy European countries per capita. (Germany 5,600, UK 3,900 , Norway 8000ish, U.S. 9,200 !! Switzerland 9,600, most are in the 5, - 6k range)
Healthcare expenditures per capita in USD, World Bank 2014, I know those numbers by heart - you get the idea.
"Wealthy" is important: living costs and wages influence the costs of healthcare.
I also looks like the moment a system is private (CH, U.S.) or has even a 2 tier set-up it gets more expensive (paper shufflers, dysfunctional incentives, etc.)
Australia has 6,000 for instance.
