2:30 10 - 12 % cross voters are NORMAL. (voted in the primary of one party and then for the president of the other party). 2008: 24 % of Hillary primary voters voted for McCain in the general (that was unusually high). - the primary HRC voters were loyal, they turned out in high numbers in the general as well (seems a - Duh ! - but they claimed she retained that vote better than usual.) The candidate may have cross over appeal, or the voters of the other party try to influence who is the candidate that runs against their real preference (That is claimed when one party runs an incumbent, typically they are not challenged (much) in primaries, so the voters are free to engage / skew the primary outcomes of the other party. Such claims have been made for either party, it ssems hard to prove, just sayin' Roughly 90 % of the people that could be bothered in the primary to engage for one part at least not voting against the candidate of said party, does not seem a bad number for me.

There is no evidence that ENGAGED Sanders supporters did not turn out in the swing states where it mattered. HRC was not inspiring for the base, for the lukewarm voters. (neither that much into her or Sanders) Being the continuation of Obama with the neoliberal policies and both pro TPP (no one really believed that Clinton had changed her opinion on it, she just realized hat Sanders and Trump polled well with that) did not help either.

you forget the actor Reagan, that had early Alzheimer's when he got into office. 3 months in, he was shot at (March 1981), he needed live saving surgery and I guess he was already on some medication from a trusted doctor, so his inner circle had to come clean. The doctors diagnosed early stage of Alzheimers. Suited his VP Bush just fine Of course now the Dems want to top that with a candidate that has clear signs of cognitive decline in the campaign phase already. Trump isn't like he used to be 10 - 15 years either (and did not start from a high level to begin with). But his decline is different.
