  1. Phew. Awful. I had a violent and unpredictable father. His hitting was always around our heads and faces, and almost always unexpected. He was also a king of verbal abuse. To say the least, our childhood environment was toxic. We grew up, were tertiary educated, left home and built OK lives for ourselves. We had emotional problems, yes, but were not violent. Nor did we commit crimes. I am now 82 years old, and can look back on an OK adult life. I have no patience at all with facile psychological mumbo-jumbo.
