  1.  @karlsonkopfspalter3127  Putin just wants Russia to be great again. I don't think he's entertaining these complicated "reach defensible borders" ideas, nor wants endless expansion. He just wants greatness, to be able to call the shots. For too long, the US has called the shots and Putin hasn't been able to stop them. So he's avenging that and restoring his and Russia's rightful place among nations. Sure he'd like to take the Baltics again, especially since there's Russian population there and it'd challenge and break NATO's article 5. So perhaps it doesn't matter that much exactly why.

  2. Sounds written by an American. Translation to English: We setup a world order with ourselves as the sole superpower and guarantor of freedom and democracy. For our own safety, we've e.g. acted against nuclear proliferation, including convincing Ukraine to give up its nukes for our security assurances. And we wanted Europe fairly weak. Now we're suddenly abdicating our responsibilites in a time of great peril. Good luck handling the power vacuum!
