@elektrotehnik94 "Cost-effective SMR's are always 10 or 20 years away" This is a misunderstanding of how it works. Low cost comes from series production and refinements of designs during series production. It doesn't come from a tech blueprint.

They're not very brittle or easily sabotaged constructions, so arguably the physical security requirements are moderate. Also many of them will be placed close to each other.

@jasonneugebauer5310 depends on the definition of "ruined" I guess. Let's say we have a huge pool of water, below grade, with no drains, and the reactor modules are operating while submerged in that pool of water. How to compromise that setup, with those tools, to get a significant radioactive release outside the plant perimeter? (I'm describing the NuScale setup, btw.)

@jasonneugebauer5310 why would being in a pool add complexity? The point is that it radically lowers complexity. The NRC agreed that due to this design facilitating passive safety, e.g. no nuclear-rated backup power is necessary. After 70 years with nuclear power, we have experienced no significant sabotage attempts. It's apparently not a very attractive target.

@jasonneugebauer5310 ah, ok.
