  1. There are people saying this for lots of tech, including nuclear: "Let's wait for a silver bullet." But scale really does help. It helps making the market bigger for alternatives, it helps gradual improvements, it helps reduce costs, it helps increase supply chain capacities and so forth. Also, fortunately, tax dollars aren't really needed for EVs anymore. They'll take market shares anyway until reaching 80%+ sales in the EU in the 2030-ies and the US in the 2040-ies.
