@DebugMaster1234 the EU including EU countries have contributed about 2x more than the US to Ukraine. It's just the case that the majority of the weapons have come from the US and the majority of financial support has come from the EU bloc. But the EU is a far larger contributor in total aid. It's our home turf and we do take the bulk of responsibility, but you have the military muscle. You're missing that the current security architecture has been designed by the US. You wanted Germany and Japan to be militarily weak. You wanted no nuclear weapons proliferation. You wanted these alliances where you are at the center. You wanted to be the global hegemon, the sole superpower. You wanted us to rely on your weapons industry. So we buy your arms, we let you lead, we support the dollar economy and support most of what you do with what we can in our weakened state. Now you have a populist bunch that complains about the security architecture that you set up and wanted. And yeah, of course it's fine if you want to take 20 years to implement a plan for a new global security order. But it's not reasonable for you to take these random populist complaints as reason to abandon your commitments cold turkey and let Ukraine (and later the Baltics and so on) be swallowed by Russia and in general let the world descend into chaos.

@stevegolden8720 Americans should be defending Europe because you've committed to do just that. We live in the security order that you designed. I don't think Trump will win, but we'll see.

@DebugMaster1234 I can't find disbursed support figures right now. Germany is ramping up military spending and support to Ukraine quite rapidly. Basically Germany after WW2 hasn't wanted to return to a strong military posture and the others hasn't wanted it to either, but that's now changing and hopefully that's good. UK is above the NATO guideline of 2%, France is close. What do you want? In the 80-ies, the US spent 6% of GDP mostly to contain the Russian Empire. What has Ukraine military support cost the US now for these 2 years? 0.3% of GDP spent on your own arms factories renewing your inventory. Is that bad enough for you to let the Russian Empire do whatever?

@HubertofLiege do you know when the 2%-of-GDP goal was introduced? I would guess not. Only in 2014, and it was pretty vague with no threats from the US at that time. The UK exceeds the goal, Poland exceeds it by a lot, France is slightly below, the Baltic countries as well as Finland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia are all exceeding. Norway, Spain, Italy and Canada are well below. With that mixed picture, the US is going to take its guns and go home? With all due respect, this is populist, irresponsible brinkmanship that serves to embolden Putin and thus bring us closer to WW3. Please don't do that. NATO article 5 with its guarantees of mutual defense must be believable or Putin WILL try to break NATO by invading e.g. some country in the Baltics at a time when US leadership is at its weakest and most isolationist. If you don't care, then you either don't understand the implications or you want the world to burn.
