Like something out of an adventure movie, the curse is said to have been cast when the 45 carat blue was stolen from a Hindu god in the 17th century. Ever since that inauspicious event, the stone is believed to have brought tragedy and misfortune to its unlucky owners, who include Louise XVI and Marie Antoinette down to the American socialite Evalyn Walsh McLean and The Kennedy’s.
