  1. You mentioned that CHKDSK would check various parts of the file system, including 'folders'. It struck me that when I first used CHKDSK, there was no such thing as 'folders' or directories as they were originally called. Directories were introduced with DOS 2.0 and caused confusion among the people I was working with and to whom I was providing what has come to be known as IT support. Thankfully, gone are the days of manually editing disks to undelete files.
