@BenState Win11 is better than Win10 because of MORE ADVERTISING! YAY. Another revenue stream for Microsoft.

@KingZeus96 You absolutely can connect to the internet without a router. That's what we used to do commonly when XP first came out. This is why Windows still has dial-up modem software but even if you have cable or fibre you can connect any machine directly. You may need to use some sort of PPPoE software but if you have a cable or fibre modem where the ISP connection is initiated and the credentials are stored on the modem, you don't even need that. It is like dipping your balls into a fish tank full of piranhas but you can do it.

@Rukushin You are completely right with what you say. There has to be something listening on a port that will accept connections before any remote attacker can even try to exploit something. After all, a router is just another computer via which you control what is exposed and what is not. Many routers, especially if 'managed' by an ISP are ridiculously insecure with a remote admin port open using default credentials.

@sadssddsd2926 Windows still has dial-up modem software which exposes you directly to the internet. If you have a cable or fibre modem with a network cable to the router, you can pull the router out and directly connect a computer though you may need some PPPoE software or whatever other means your ISP requires for you to authenticate. I did this just a few months ago to sort out problems with my fibre connection. When all else is said and done, a router is just another computer.
