There are lots of "delicacies" from around the world that I'm convinced were only designated "delicacies" in times of famine to get the kids to actually eat something. Swedish surstromminng for one as well as Gorgonzola cheese, Casu Marzu (maggoty sheep cheese) and Birds' nest soup too. Who, unless you were legitimately starving, would eat rotting fish, fly blown cheese with the maggots still in it, or bird spittle + faeces soup.

@wuw127 OK, I'll give you that. But when my grandfather wanted to travel by train in peace without people crowding him, he'd carry some gorgonzola cheese with him. It got him a train carriage to himself most times. 1920's Australia. Perhaps people's palettes weren't as refined but their noses worked.

Lots of people use leaves to cook things in, like banana leaves. I'm sure you could use other broad leaves as long as they have no toxins. You wrap the food up and place in the coals covering the top as well. It's got to be better than eating a fistful of ash with your food.
