Yeah prosecutors care about keeping their conviction rate high and taking the easiest route possible which is a plea deal that lets violent criminals out early - if we could count up all the people victimized by people that should still be in prison it would be astounding

@eraldadevole they shouldn’t have plead them out - they had a huge amount of evidence and two confessions. But now both of them could end up on the street again. Prosecutors are really good at talking victim’s families into plea deals because it’s easier and guarantees their conviction rate stays high - it’s not right.

@ that’s not even close to true - they don’t “have to agree”. Many prosecutors/DAs make sure they agree before moving forward but the number where the family don’t agree isn’t insignificant. And even when they do agree they only agree because the prosecutor frames it in a way that the plea deal is “the only way to send them to prison” and that’s just not true. I was in law enforcement for years and have seen this first hand, I’m not just judging things from YouTube videos.

You do realize this is extremely common and not “neglect” - I don’t agree with it and didn’t raise my kids like that, but it’s not neglect lol

@ yeah I know that and I’m fine with that… but prosecutors have so much to gain by pleading cases out that they don’t frame the consequences of the plea deal to the family so while the family agrees to it, I think it’s only because they don’t really understand what they’re agreeing to and what it may mean 10-20yrs later when they have to fight a parole hearing every 2-3yrs
