  1. the french are an odd lot (i live next door to france) every region at one time had a different language / dialect of french, they even had to standardise their language. but they did it, they are good at some science. the concept of "the beginning of the year" is weird too, like "having to wait til the end of the year for the holiday" - it's a cycle, why are we so cynical? why not weee! holidays come first!!
