  1. 59:10 my girlfriend is schizophrenic, if ever they was a definition of not having free will she's it, plus she can do awful things, but it's like the tornado or the tsunami, there's no use in blaming her, for one thing if you react as if she did something deliberately and try to "teach her a lesson" she has no idea why she's being "punished". not having free will means we need to rethink the penal system entirely. even if you look back (and you can't actually go back and "do otherwise") and you see a point that a different decision would've have had a better outcome, up until that point occured you would still make the same decisions based on the same information you had the first time around. the only way to have free will is to play out EVERY version of your entire life and then pick which you prefer - which negates your free will again cos it's just a recording.

  2. surely one of the criteria for assigning "intelligence" would be the ability to "care" - so rather than needing fail-safes to avoid our destruction (accidental or otherwise) AI will automatically be concerned with the welfare of others - in the same way humans are. (the problem there being some humans don't really care enough).

  3. 2:07:50 we all do it though, those starving kids are on the other side of the world so we can assign a low priority. but with covid it does highlight the importance of education, it's time to take a few action movies off the air and replace them with science, if we got rid of all the "reality shows" that are pure bubble gum, and replaced them with art, science, literature, podcasts even, who knows what the world could be like.
