  4. i have a theory of my own, that even though the human race might contain the sickest of criminal minds, the most perverse of psychotics, the meanest of people, this diversity means that even if we do decide to bring on the apocalypse, someone will crawl out of the rubble and a thousand years after we'd back sending rockets to mars. i don't know who to believe when it comes to string theory, my absolute hero roger penrose is saying crazy things about the mind, eric here is fast becoming a conspiracy theorist, sabine is always telling me her colleagues are nutty, but - i think it's important to have all this nonsense in this field, it's always been the crazies who have turned up brilliance, just because we don't know who the crazy is at the moment doesn't mean they aren't all valuable. i hope professor _________ is right, we just don't know their name yet or the theory they dreamed up.

  9. no one comes back from death. jesus is supposed to be god, so in that case he is immortal, so the crucifixion was a con, tell me, how can an immortal decide to mortal then change back again? the whole point of mortality is that you DIE - PERMANENTLY. if you don't die then you're immortal, and dying is a trick. you religious folk have poop for brains, it's so important that A) you get into heaven and B) you are right about everything that you can't even figure out when the bible is making a monkey out of you.

  14. aeons gets around a lot of unpleasantness with infinities. one thing i like is the idea that the big bang, although cyclic, repeated, is always the "first" big bang, as this is when time begins, so the question "where did it first come from" is answered with "the big bang", it started as a result of the end of the last aeon. which "never existed". i think if we build transport that can get us any distance quickly that the universe is finite, but shaped in such a way that we see it as infinite, and there would be symmetry between aeons and the "shape of time" and the "shape of the universe". anyway, lack of sleep. lol.

  19. 28:00 i have a close friend who is schizophrenic, i say she lives in a bubble of inter-galactic exclusion jelly. in order to make progress (when we met she was in total denial of her illness) i explained that there is this theory of multiple universes and that what happens to her doesn't always coincide with my experience, and i need her explanation of why she reacts in a certain way (delusions) when i don't have the same experience as her, we have made progress and at least we can talk and she's not do afraid i will say "you're just imagining things". in a way we all do live in separate realities.

  20. it is tempting to say "look at all that money that could be spent on starving kids" but the fact is all that money eventually does help starving kids, over the last 50 years poverty levels have dropped, despite all those billions being burnt. and we NEED another planet, whatever happens to earth we NEED to expand outwards, if we can save the planet (i want it to be a nature preserve) then there is hope for us as a real "civilisation".
