the nice thing about the UK is that we constantly fought with the scots the irish and the welsh, until someone outside tries it on and we get together, the united states is neither in competition with each other or in cooperation. also we're small enough, and near enough to europe, that we notice when shts going down. what irritates me is that we fall for the immigration card as well, when are people going to realise that 90% of the world is bloody foreigners. racism is a waste of a life.

brit here, i don't watch the news or read the papers, i have the luxury of being retired so i can trawl the internet for my news. in fact i was, oddly enough, on the way to a funeral when i was told our queen had died - complete news to me, but what did surprise me was i didn't know prince philip had died a year before - i'm really, really good at ignoring the news.

new zealand, japan and the UK all had ONE school shooting, they each changed the regulations right away and they, we, have had NONE since. americans are still claiming that a gun is defence - it is not - kevlar is defence - guns are designed to kill, and if you AND a shooter have a gun you're just going to double the deaths / injuries. fun fact: in 2022 there were 18,000 plus armed response deployments in the UK, of those only 4 times were weapons discharged, while in the US in 2022 the police shot over 1,000 people. and no, we haven't had any mass knife killings is schools thank you very much. meanwhile in new zealand: "In 2021, Labour MP Willow-Jean Prime made headlines by breastfeeding her daughter Heeni in Parliament's debating chamber.
