  1. i don't understand the gates in the london underground, i always ahve my card ready but i want to touch in and walk straight through, but you touch in and have to wait for the gate to open, it's really silly.

  2. lol. i ask my friends how much japanese they know, and when they say none i tell them "what's japanese for door? - door" "what's japanese for button? - button" "what's japanese for table? - table" "what's japanese for spoon? - spoon" lots of western words have been adopted because things like doors, spoons, tables and tellybee (!) weren't in japan before they opened the borders. so japanese know a lot of english (ingorish) without realising it, english is everywhere. when i was there with my now ex wife we wanted to go on an excursion but it was fully booked, but the people in the travel agency kept running round trying to make something happen for us until i had to order them to stop, that were determined to help. i forget the author but i read a book aobut an american who moved to japan, he got lost at a station and asked a stranger for help, the stranger had no english but was so determined to do something the author said "i was sure this guy would take english lessons and spend years getting it right so he could help me" and the japanese seem to be kinda like that.
