  1. i've been calling it dark matter, but strings are even better, in trying to imagine "what was here before the big bang" i've been trying to imagine not empty space, but a solid infinite space made of dark matter / strings, "solid" filling all of space and time, in which at some point swirls into the big bang. i'm probably wrong, but it does make the vasteness of the universe more palatable to imagine it's FULL of something, rather than "how do we get something from nothing".
