The New York Times (NYT) European correspondent Stephen Erlanger said that with high inflation and a depreciating lira, the Turkish military "may suddenly appear at night" in Greece. Growing tensions between NATO-member Greece and Turkey threaten to add a complex new dimension to Europe's efforts to maintain its unity against Russia and fight the economic and energy crises, the correspondent said. Turkey is already a difficult NATO partner, as Erdogan has refrained from imposing sanctions on Russia and has strengthened relations with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, angering the US. Erlanger noted that Turkey has already proved to be a problematic and unpredictable ally for NATO partners.
