  1. Tesla decided to use cameras and not lidar sensors for it's "self driving" system. Cameras are less expensive but have issues that lidar does not. What sort of issues? Oh not being able to "see" in fog, lidar can! Not being able to "see" in heavy rain, lidar can. Not being able to "see" in heavy snow fall, lidar can. So unless you live where there isn't fog, rain or snow, cameras are fine. For the rest of the world eh not so much so a lidar equipped self driving car is the way to go. Oh and one more thing, you know the old "Roadrunner" cartoons? Where Wile E Coyote paints a tunnel on a wall?
