So was Western North Carolina safer? How about California, wildfires, mudslides, earthquakes? Live in the Great Plains? Texas, Oklahoma? Oh yeah add tornadoes to that list. Is there any place left that is really "safe" anymore?

I live in the Tampa Bay area and have a number of friends decide to move "back north". The destination of choice? Western North Carolina, the Asheville area! Thankfully I've heard from all of them and all are safe. But all suffered major material loses in one way or another. One was commenting (before Milton) that in 30 years living in that Tampa Bay area they never had that kind of problems. I'm from the Chicago area and witnessed the 1990 Plainfield Tornado (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1990_Plainfield_tornado) and watched a town wiped from the map, 29 killed and 353 injured including a very good friend. There are wildfires in some states, mudslides in others and of course hurricanes and tornadoes. My point is, there really isn't a "safe" place to live without problems. Is there? Oh and I weathered Milton with little more than tree limbs down, some shingles lifted and a few days without power. I got lucky!

@courty1968 WOW are you clueless as to the point I was making! And I'm original from CHICAGO not the "East Coast" and why do you assume that it was California not other states and places I was commenting on? A bit too close to home? Ever hear of the New Madrid Fault? You do know there are earthquakes in Oklahoma too right? Look it up, yeah not as active as the one you live. Wildfires happen in a lot of other states, every hear of Colorado? What an ego on your part to assume it was a comment aimed at the US West Coast! And my point is yes places other than Florida face natural disasters too!
