  1. There is still one good use case for a VPN, connecting from home to a work network, in this use case the VPN needs to originate at "home" and terminate at the work location.

  2. Maybe because unless you are a hard core gamer with money to burn, you don't need to upgrade beyond what you already have at this point? Heck many common computer users can do just fine with sub $500 laptops or even a tablet so why buy expensive new computer hardware when those dollars could go for things that have also skyrocketed in price! Like what? Oh let me think, rent, gas, clothing and food to name a few things.
