I had a firearm stolen from my home. I reported it, including who had access to my home (there were people doing work in the home at the time, the contractor lost his bond over this) The police were more concerned about the VALUE of the gun, than that a gun was stolen. When the man was caught the the possible gun related charges were DROPPED. This for a man that had a long criminal history, as to the courts, previous convictions didn't matter! He did go to jail for theft as the value was over $500.00. The firearm spent more time in the evidence room than he did in jail! AMAZING! Material value trumped possible public safety. Welcome to America.

@Roof_Pizza It was locked up, the man was left unsupervised with power tools for over an hour. The only thing taken from the safe was the gun, I guess he wasn't interested in my family papers. I was at work so not home when it happened, this is why the contractor lost his bond. Oh and the alarm was off so the contractor and his crew could work. Yeah after that I invested in a much better safe and no one is allowed in my home when I am not present.

In most cases insurance cost is minimal or even already included in many home owner policies. I doubt many gun owners would care. As to new gun owners? Most would go to a gun shop, be to just "check with your insurance company" and still buy a gun.

@nycatlady2314 It was a plea bargain (for him a real bargain!) the gun and other charges dropped in exchange for a guilty plea on the charge of theft.

@tvdv3416 it had to be released by the judge and DA, both took forever to get the paperwork done.
