  1. The problem is that beyond a certain line, there's nothing left but speculation. This dismisses any scientific approach. I think any theoretical lifeform that has no energy-cycle of photosynthesis or organic combustion but something else will have totally unpredictable characteristics. There are many possibilities. All types of radiation can be the energy source. And there can be constructs that are not based on elementary chemistry but still evolve. Imagine a binary program running on a naturally existing medium instead of man-made semiconductor circuitry...
