@celtichistorydecoded I believe its pronounced Van Houch, with the ch as in loch. Its definitely not a G sound as in gate, its much softer and is more glottal. Pretty easy for a Scottish voice to get around it.

@100percentnonofyourbiz I'm just going by the way my Dutch girlfriend from Amsterdam pronounced it. After your comment I went to youtube ('Dutch Lessons by Thomas' if anyone else wants to listen) to confirm it. Exactly as I stated, Glottal H (lower back of the throat) and a rolled ch as in Scottish loch (which is also back of the throat). Don't know where in Holland you come from ... maybe my explanation wasn't clear enough. Not a hard g as in gate, not an f or a k sound at the end either.

@100percentnonofyourbiz The Dutch gh is pronounced as ch as in loch. The g at the beginning is a glottal h, thus Houch; much closer to hook than goff.

@100percentnonofyourbiz I'm just trying to explain to people how to pronounce Van Gogh as I've learnt it, as I've heard it pronounced by Dutch people and how it is exampled by the YouTube Dutch language channel I've quoted. If you choose to pronounce it differently, that's up to you. Unless you can show an example on video that is publicly accessible of an alternate pronunciation I'll leave it at that, tot ziens.

@100percentnonofyourbiz Which is the same as the Youtube example I gave you ... closest phonetic English pronunciation in writing I can come up with is 'Houch'. Apologies for missing your previous link. I think we are arguing the same point here mijn vriend.

@100percentnonofyourbiz I think we can both agree CHD didn't get the pronunciation right. All the best Pal😉
