  2. The term ‘pirates’ as it is commonly known does not apply fully in Somalia’s case. Somalia being critically situated in the Gulf of Aden, Indian Ocean: With the longest coastline in Africa presents unique challenges to a country who is recovering from a civil war that has destroyed many institutions like the Coast Guard and Navy. As a result, there is a conjunction of so many nefarious activities around it’s waters. Arms trafficking, foreign trawlers that steal tuna fish (The EU - Operation Atalanta is mere fig leaf to hide Spain & Frances being the largest harvester of tuna fish in the Indian Ocean), toxic dumping of chemical waste by mainly European ships on our shores. Literally barrels of chemical waste washing up onshore that has devastated local peoples skin, health and caused cancer. These activities destroy livelihoods and must be fought against. Don’t call people ‘pirates’ who fight back against what is done to them. Check your own ignorance and hate.
