Lucas Fernandez Who needs a lawn when you can walk to work and the city is your backyard?

@Anti Tengu City-to-city by train or river raft, from cargo hub to destination by cargo bike. The Netherlands is already leading the way. You just gotta build good bike lanes everywhere and prevent sprawl.

The claim isn't really true either. Only through-traffic is forbidden, so you need to drive on the figure 8 to get from neighborhood to neighborhood by car, but many, if not most, streets are open to local car traffic.

@robk7266 I live in Holland and moved from one apartment to another by bike in July. Just google "bakfiets verhuizen" to get an idea how that's done. It was a lot cheaper and faster than renting a van, and I got tons of thumbs-up from passers-by. But yeah, one-day delivery is super cheap and rental cars exist.

@Anti Tengu I have moved across a major city with nothing but a cargo bike. I moved cabinets, beds, computers... There is virtually nothing that you can't transport with the right type of bike. I know this from experience. And what major city in Europe lacks a train connection?

Frankie Bedek What about cancer? It metastasizes and humans are slowly but surely killing the planet.

Yeah, Amsterdam looks Dutch but it doesn't feel Dutch. I guess its history is all based on globalization but it's gone a bit too far when you have to speak a foreign language to get by.

I've been there, in fact I even bought my previous phone there, but I'd still prefer a traditional shopping street. Malls are really sterile and you can't really hang out there without buying anything. They kill local shops without bringing any real benefits to anyone other than big corporations.

@sagichnicht6748 Bollards. Hella bollards. Retractable bollards, regular bollards, bollards that swivel sideways, artwork, plants, or boulders that double as bollards. Bollards everywhere.

Who knew that if you design your city around car ownership, you will forever be stuck in traffic...

They can ride mobility scooters on bike lanes like they do in the Netherlands.

@sagichnicht6748 Yeah, so if you're not driving on a major street, that means you're always going to be a few hundred meters away from your destination. But cyclists get to zip right through the bollards and get from compartment to compartment directly and with ease. It's always fun to browse Google Maps and see how different areas of the Netherlands have pulled off that very same trick. Like, for example, Amsterdam is an extreme example of this. Just for fun, look up car directions between the New Church and the Old Church in Amsterdam. The distance is literally 10x longer by car than if you were to walk or cycle, and that's only because cars have to take the long way 'round on the bigger streets instead of cutting through the busy shopping streets.

"Nasal probing." Lol!

Yeah, what city

Major Fallacy That's what happens when you pave everything over and keep adding lanes. Looking at you, Los Angeles.

It's not a park if it's got multi-lane roads running through it.

>is a city planner >drives cars 🙃

@RoScFan Motorcycles can drive through but they don't. Trikes and cargo bikes fit through as well.

People call that a subway / metro. What Elon is building is an extremely low capacity subway for rich people.

@Andrew1680 Cars were in a lot of ways an improvement over the horse. The feed/fuel was cheaper, there wasn't any poop all over the streets, and cars don't need to sleep. The problems began when cars started replacing public transport and bikes as well. It's not like cars in tunnels weren't a thing before and we already know what happens when you try to inject more and more cars into a city.
