  1. Anon ymous The only way to relieve congestion is to have fewer cars on the roads, not conveniencing driving even further. The best thing for drivers would be to put all those idiots driving ahead of you on their own two feet, bikes, and public transport, would it not? The Dutch like to say that you can fit 5-10 bikes in the space that a car takes up. I mean talk about capacity! But as long as these modes of transport are not feasible alternatives to driving, that's never going to happen. The freeway is not just an eyesore, it's impacting the economy of the city in a dramatic fashion. You see, downtowns benefit from economies of scale. The bigger the dense downtown area is, the more easily different businesses in various industries can mingle and coalesce. This is why Manhattan is thriving and Dallas is not. Distance is a barrier to cooperation and human contact. Fast transport guarantees a flexible workforce which is happy to be paid a bit less because they don’t have to pay for a car. Connecting and expanding the downtown area where it makes the most financial sense, and building housing and jobs in the area with the most direct highway access in all of Texas is a no-brainer. People won't be taking the I-345 so much anymore when they live or work where it used to be.
