@vaataja Canadians are also concerned, we share a land border of 8,891 km (5,525 mi) long. Canada needs to start built major armaments as they did in WW2 fighter plans, war ships, subs and tanks, which would create jobs within Canada and Canada has the raw materials to do so. Canada at the end of WW2 had the world's fourth largest air force and third largest navy Besides a good defence is a good deterrent to aggressive countries such as Russia and China.

They appear to be very different from the Regan republicans.

Wasn't Johnson's first moves was to introduce a bill that included nearly $14.5bn in support for Israel but zero dollars for Ukraine. It passed the Republican-controlled House by a vote of 226 to 196, only to be shut down in the Democrat-led Senate on Tuesday? By this it does appear as if the US republicans support Putin.

@petermartell568 Since February 2022, Canada has committed over $2.4 billion in military assistance to Ukraine. Plus between 2014 and 2021 ( prior to Russia's full invasion) Canada committed more than $250 million in development assistance (training Ukraine military in Ukraine, with the US and UK). Sadly Canada started cutting military expenditures when Prime Minister Diefenbaker agreed to stop making major weapons due to pressure from the US, as the US wanted to have the bulk of military spending and responsibility of all of the military manufacturing. Diefenbaker cut Canada's military from 5% of GDP to about 2% of GDP over six years 1957-1964. Canada needs to restart manufacturing major armaments as they did in WW2 warships, fighter planes, tanks and subs, this would create jobs within Canada instead of purchasing from the US. Plus a good defence is a good deterrent from aggressive countries like Russia and China.

@RichardRodi526 That might explain on Jan 10, 2023 Canada purchased A National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS) and associated munitions are being purchased from the United States, to donate to Ukraine, at a total cost of $406 million. The United States will deliver the system on Canada’s behalf, and updates on delivery will be provided in due course. Which is still in progress.

The same in Canada which was originally set up like the British system.

The republicans are damaging the US reputation and the trust of the US allies.

Democracies are great for the people as they rely on votes from the public to be elected unlike dictatorships. The problem is they make their decisions according to their four year term instead of long term. Plus there is too much rivalry between political parties, they vote for what is best for the party instead of what is better for all.
