 @carmenl9682 It was even worse for women before and somehow people managed to have multiple kids. That's not the reason for people not having kids.

@andresmattos7541 Women had less rights that was also the reason they had more kids. Today no woman will give birth to a baby unless a man has his own apartment.

The main factor is the housing prices. Back in the days you could build your own hut at whatever place and pump out many kids who became the workforce at the age of 6. Nowadays many people can't even afford 30m² apartment in cities because of the prices and it's a nightmare living like a family with 2 kids in that small space when you also have to feed them until they turn 20ish years old. There's nothing related to 'gender inequality’, it's actually opposite as educated women are less likely to have kids (it's real statistics).
