It's saddening that you say Epic, the company that systematically bribed companies to commit false advertising, and weaponized gamers to participate in a fight they picked on their own (by actively breaching contract) and drastically misdescribed, and recently elected yet again to lay off a huge chunk of their working force to pay for the mismanagers' overspending, has no trust issue.

  2.  @n00bc0de7  Support by Amazon is to be viewed with a hefty chunk of suspicion. Take a look at the "Amazon Personal Games policy". Their very first clause demands that any Amazon employee developing a game on their own time must predict any of Amazon's future activities to never compete, for instance. And the final one forbids cooperating with anyone outside Amazon. That said, O3DE appears to be a release of their game engine to a separate foundation, which is precisely the sort of move that could protect against Unity-style bait and switch. It could be worth looking into if it has saner terms now. I wonder how much is hiding behind this clause: "Open 3D Engine requires the use of (and in some cases makes available to you) software and assets that have been developed by third parties and are subject to separate license terms (such as code licensed under other open source licenses)."
