Subtle semantic distinction, but as I understand it the software will not be at fault (responsible) until it achieves consciousness, merely faulty (containing a defect). It is reckless, biased and illogical development, deployment and particularly defense of the software that deserves blame. To no small degree, I suspect, the result of the software industry's standard of accepting absolutely no responsibility.

@TheEvertw Did you know it's possible to have sliding scales? I described the standard set by the legalese tripe that is EULAs, TOS and such, not the limit of possibility. Feel free to point out any piece of end user software that surpasses that standard, perhaps to as high a level as the book The Art of Computer Programming, which carries rewards for finding bugs.
